University Of Texas, Perry-Castaneda Library, Map Division: This is probably the most comprehensive and easily accessible link for the study and acquisition of North Carolina map materials; these include outline maps, city maps, historic maps, maps of physical and political features, maps of regions at varying scale; in addition this web site has links to other sources of North Carolina maps; maps of other states, countries and special themes, such as national parks and historic sites.
NC Center for Geographic Information Systems: Provides many kinds of mapped information.
William P. Cummings Map Society: This is North Carolina’s own society for people interested in maps, especially historical maps; the society maintains a web page especially relevant to those interested in the state’s historical maps.
The David Rumsey Historical Map Collection: This site contains the world’s most comprehensive collection of historic maps and atlas pages, with emphasis on American cartography of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Environmental Protection Agency The EPA has conducted many studies relating to North Carolina’s physical environments, some of these have been adapted for use by teachers and students; you will find information on state and county by county water quality, beach erosion and protection, watershed projects (did you know that many state high schools have adopted watersheds for monitoring and clean up – with web pages of their own)); all of this and much more is available through:
